Mexico's Sun Triangle Positions Itself for 2015

The Tourism Board for the State of Guerrero has confirmed an agenda full of promotional events for the last quarter of 2014. These projects are aimed to increase inbound arrivals, hotel occupancy and boost the economy for the Sun Triangle's three destinations: Acapulco, Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo and Taxco

Guerrero Tourism Board Secretary Javier Aluni Montes said that following the guidelines of the State Executive, the GTB continues establishing strategic partnerships with investors from the private sector who recognize the state as a thriving tourist destination, with the ideal infrastructure to host events such as the Mexican Open Gymnastics Championships, Triathlon Telcel Acapulco, Down Hill Taxco, and Campus Yoga Ixtapa -Zihuatanejo, as well as corporate and medical congresses like the Finance Association and the International Convention of Orthopedics, respectively.

To highlight the destinations’ many attractions for active travelers, which include cycling, golf and surfing, the GTB has invested in the promotion of sports events. The 30th Ixtapa Triathlon (the longest triathlon in Latin America) was hosted in May. The month of October will bring the excitement to Taxco with the Down Hill Taxco event (24-25), which welcomes cyclists from more than 20 countries. The sports event became a benchmark for the magic town of Guerrero in 2013 by attaining full occupancy in all the town’s hotels. This year will be the first time that the final for the event will be held in Taxco. The Telcel Triathlon 2014 will take place during the same weekend in Acapulco, featuring more than 2,500 athletes from all over the world.

Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo will be the setting for the second edition of Campus Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Yoga, which will take place from November 28th to the 30th. The event will incorporate holistic therapies and gather international teachers for a detoxifying weekend.

Other awaited events include Tropico 2014, a music festival slated for December 6 and with various entertainment events taking over the coast for the entire weekend. Aside from musical performances, Tropico will incorporate fashion shows, artisan works, food and beverage and pool parties. The lineup will include Atomic Bomb!, Kelela and DJ Harvey, amongst more.

To end the year with splendor, Acapulco will host a series of firework spectacles at Bahia de Santa Lucia from December 26-31.
