What's New in AcapulcoOctober 9, 2006 By: Mark Rogers Travel Agent
New flights, agent training give tourism a boost
Acapulco has been struggling of late with an image problem, due to an increase in drug violence. But not all of the news coming out of this former jet-set playground is bad. Teresa de Jesús Rivas, Acapulco's tourism director, says that the number of visitors to the Pacific coast resort city increased from 5.3 million in 2004 to 5.7 million in 2005. However, these figures are not all they're cracked up to be, since only about 15 percent of tourists arrive from other countries.
This hasn't stopped Frontier Airlines from offering new
nonstop service from Denver (DEN) to Acapulco (ACA) effective Dec. 20. This
route is designed for seasonal travel, and will be available through April 2007
(with the exception of the month of January, during which time nonstop flights
will be offered on Saturdays only). Air service from
(December to April) is available only via Frontier Airlines. For information
"Our low fares, paired with Acapulco's world-class
hotels, beaches and nightlife, made Acapulco a very popular destination for
Frontier passengers," says John Happ, senior vice president of marketing
and planning for Frontier Airlines.
