Ethiopian Airlines Launches Africa's First Dreamliner Plane

Punctuated with a water cannon salute, music, dancing, and coffee, ribbon- and cake-cutting ceremonies at Washington Dulles International Airport, Ethiopian Airlines officially launched their first-ever 787 Dreamliner airplane this week, the first in the world after Japan and the first in Africa.

Ethiopian Airlines’ new 787 Dreamliner took off from Dulles Wednesday morning and flew to its home base of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to start a Dreamliner tour of Africa. It is scheduled to enter regularly scheduled service from Dulles (IAD) in late September 2012.

Nice touch: Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Airlines Tewolde Gebremariam named the new aircraft “Africa First.”
