LAS VEGAS, Nevada –As part of our ongoing coverage of the 12th annual Luxury Travel Expo at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, Travel Agent spoke with Dr. Aloyce K. Nzuki, the new managing director of the Tanzania Tourist Board, and learned of the African destination’s plans to add direct flights from New York and Atlanta and possibly add U.S. hotel brands such as Marriott Hotels and Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts.
“We are really looking to build upon the luxury product currently offered in Tanzania,” said Nzuki, who took over as managing director about one year ago, “and we always have the need for better air service.”
The Tanzania Tourist Board is currently in discussions with Delta Airlines and United Airlines to add Tanzanian destinations to the existing flight schedules of each carrier, both of which already offer direct service to Western Africa, according to Nzuki. The Tanzania Tourist Board within the next two years hopes to get both carriers to open up a new route from Western Africa to Tanzania, a trip of roughly six hours.
As for adding Marriott and Four Seasons to the destination, Nzuki said those plans are in the early stages.
Tanzania is currently looking at an approximate 10 percent increase in arrivals from this time last year and is looking to beef up in the same way as emerging markets such as Japan, Russia, Turkey and Australia. In the U.S., he says Texas continues to be a growing market as well as West Coast destinations like San Diego and Los Angeles.
“More and more people are coming to Africa in general and we’d like to take advantage of that by building on our offerings,” said Nzuki.
