In Memoriam: Gilbert Haroche, Liberty Travel Co-Founder

gilbert harocheGilbert Haroche, a co-founder of Liberty Travel, has passed away at the age of 87.

Haroche founded Liberty Travel with New York University classmate Fred Kassner in 1951 after graduating from NYU, building it to an organization that encompassed 3,200 employees in 300 offices in 45 states in the late 1990s. Flight Centre acquired Liberty Travel and its subsidiary, Gogo Worldwide Vacations, in 2008. 

Liberty Travel became the fifth-largest agency in the U.S., and the largest leisure travel agency. 

Haroche is survived by his son, Maurice; his wife, Charlene; his sons Andre and Bob; his daughters Marcella Leone and Kim; and 10 grandchildren.
