Air Transport Association of America Sues FAA on Slot Auctioning

August 12, 2008 By: Kirk Cassels

After warning the Department of Transportation (DOT) about plans to auction takeoff and landing slots at New York area airports last week, the Air Transport Association of America (ATA) sued the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on Monday to stop the auctions. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey have joined the ATA in the public call to stop the slot auctions.

The ATA filed the suit n the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, claiming the auctions exceed limits imposed on the FAA by Congress. The FAA and DOT claim the auctions will reduce congestion at LaGuardia, JFK and Newark Liberty airports.
