Airlines Better at Arriving On Time in June

The Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics reports that the nation's airlines improved their on-time performance in June when compared to a year ago. A total of 19 airlines reported their statistics, with a grand average of 70.8 percent arriving on time in June 2008, up from 68.1 percent in June of 2007. About 79 percent of flights were on time in May 2008,

Only 1.8 percent of domestic commercial flights were canceled in June of 2008, which dropped from 2.7 percent in June 2007. However, the cancellation rate was still higher than the 1 percent posted in May 2008.

The airlines also improved in general at handling passengers' baggage. After an average of 7.94 complaints for every 1,000 customers in June of 2007, there were only 5.15 reports of mishandled luggage per 1,000 passengers in June of 2008.
