NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Three former baggage handlers at Norfolk International Airport have been arrested on charges they stole cash, weapons and other valuables from passengers' bags.
Virginia media outlets report that indictments unsealed Wednesday reveal that 25-year-old Charles Arthur Perry Jr., 27-year-old Gregory Paul Wingard Jr. and 24-year-old Donte Chandler have been charged in U.S. District Court with felony counts involving theft, conspiracy and fraud.
According to an indictment, Perry and Wingard worked for Envoy Services and would open checked baggage to steal cash and valuables, often targeting firearm containers. Investigators say the two men and an unindicted suspect would then re-sell the valuables.
A separate indictment says Chandler stole an iPad in July 2014 from a passenger's baggage.
It is unclear whether the three suspects have attorneys.
