Airports Reluctant to Participate in Registered Traveler Program

July 12, 2006 By: Joe Pike Travel Agent

The Transportation Security Administration says it is ready to expand the Registered Traveler program, but many airports say they do not want to participate, the St. Petersburg Times reports. The Air Transport Association opposes Registered Traveler because the TSA hasn't approved new equipment to speed up waiting lines. The TSA says it plans to expand Registered Traveler test programs to as many as 20 airports by year's end, but the agency let a June 20 deadline pass without naming any locations and is still taking comments from airports, airlines and technology vendors.
