AirTrain to JFK Will Close Overnight for Maintenance Through October

Bad news for travelers who don't want to take a cab to New York's John F. Kennedy Airport: The Port Authority of NY & NJ is reporting that AirTrain service at Kennedy will be unavailable at various times during September, reportedly due to "necessary construction and maintenance activities."

"When the entire system is closed, buses will take travelers from the Jamaica and Howard Beach stations to Federal Circle for transfer to buses to individual terminals," the Port Authority posted to its website. "Buses will take travelers between Federal Circle and the Central Terminal Area and within the Central Terminal Area when partial closures are in effect. Customer Care Representatives will help guide travelers onto the buses designated for travel to and from their desired airline terminals. Please leave extra time to get to and from the airport during the project’s timeframe."

The website has a schedule with details on what areas of the network will be closed when, including times (mostly overnight) when the entire system will be down. The construction seems poised to be finished by the middle of October.
