Alaska Airlines will provide a $3.5 million upgrade for its Nome Airport terminal in Nome, Alaska. Construction is projected to start in early June 2006 and will be finished by March 2007. The project will include renovating and expanding the passenger lobby, secured passenger area, cargo facility and ground service equipment area, as well as paving the customer parking lot and connecting the terminal building to city water and sewer lines. With increased security since 9-11, Alaska Airlines also says it needs more space for operations. Alaska Airlines built the existing Nome Airport terminal building in 1985. The upgrade will expand the original terminal lobby area by nearly 1,500 square feet, an increase of about 50 percent. The airline operates three daily flights to and from Nome and said it expects minimal disruption to its Nome operations as a result of the construction.
