Alitalia Cannot Guarantee Flights
September 14, 2008 By: Jena Tesse FoxAfter Monday, troubled Italian airline Alitalia will not be able to guarantee any flights due to lack of fuel, special administrator Augusto Fantozzi was quoted as saying on Saturday.
According to an AFP report, Fantozzi summoned nine unions for a meeting to save the airline, and warned them that, without kerosene, the company would not be able to guarantee flights. He also warned that, without an agreement, he would begin dismissing the crews of aircraft currently not being used by the company.
In addition, investors who were prepared to put up one billion euros ($1.4 billion) to rescue Alitalia were reported to have canceled negotiations, blaming union intransigence.
