American Airlines Announces Details for Capacity Reductions

June 26, 2008 By: Kirk Cassels

After announcing plans last month to cut domestic capacity, American Airlines provided more details Wednesday about the reductions, according to the Associated Press. The airline cited rising fuel costs as a primary reason for the curtailment of flights.

Departures at Chicago O'Hare Airport will be reduced by 28 flights, and 34 flights by American Eagle will be cut, beginning in September.

At Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, 19 departures will be cut by American and 23 flights eliminated by Eagle.

St. Louis will lose eight American departures, and New York's LaGuardia Airport will lose five. Eagle and AmericanConnection will also ground 35 flights in St. Louis and 37 Eagle flights at LaGuardia.

In addition, Eagle will cease operations in Albany, NY; Providence, RI; Harrisburg, PA; San Luis Obispo, CA; and Samana, Dominican Republic.

The details were given nearly two months after the airline announced it was closing operations in Oakland, and at London's Stansted Airport in September.
