American and Eagle Revamp at LoganApril 20, 2006 By: Susan Young Travel Agent
American Airlines and American Eagle are making $25 million in major improvements to their facilities at Boston's Logan Airport. The two airlines will combine their gates and TSA security check-in facilities and, effective immediately, shift all American Eagle departures from the Amelia Earhart General Aviation Terminal to American's facilities in Logan's Terminal B. Under the previous arrangement, there was a split operation, with 30 of 50 daily regional jet flights departing from a remote terminal accessed by a shuttle bus from Terminal B. A hallway is being added that will connect the two airlines' facilities, allowing passengers to make connections from Eagle to American flights and vice versa, without having to clear security. The new configuration, to be completed this summer, will provide an express security lane for elite members of the AAdvantage frequent flyer program and for First and Business Class passengers. With the consolidation of facilities, the airlines are also renovating retail concessions space and increasing the number of concessions from 17 to 23; the new concessions space, scheduled to open early in 2007, will include a new 15,000-square-foot food court. American is also increasing the number of self-service check-in kiosks at Logan and repositioning them for better accessibility by passengers. Its Admirals Club is will be renovated with new computers and new furniture. Much of that renovation work will be completed by mid- to late summer.
