American Does Its Part for Breast Cancer AwarenessOctober 9, 2009 By: Michael Grisafe Travel Agent
American Airlines and American Eagle will be recognizing National Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a number of activities for employees and travelers.
On Friday, October 16 employees of the airlines will be invited to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness, and donate $5 or more to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation.
“Komen began Passionately Pink for the Cure as a fundraising program to inspire breast cancer advocacy and honor those affected by the disease,” said Katrina McGhee, vice president of global partnerships for Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
In addition to this internal fundraiser, the companies will have special pink in-flight menus for travelers and several local events including bake sales. This October 16, on “Passionately Pink for the Cure Day,” American’s “Admirals Club” lounges will host fundraisers in each of its 44 club locations worldwide. Visitors can contribute to the program by buying a pink cookie or a number of pink beverages. For each item purchased 10 percent of the sales will be donated to support breast cancer awareness.
American will also donate $5 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure for every $50 of travel purchased via American Airlines Gift Cards during October. When entering payment information, travelers must be sure to enter “Komen” into the tracking code box.
