American To Limit Tickets Sold on Expedia

January 12, 2007 By: Travel Agent Central Contributor

American Airlines on Friday issued a statement saying it would no longer use to sell tickets for international flights or domestic first or business class in the U.S. The carrier, however, will continue to sell domestic coach tickets through the online travel agency. American in its statement did not provide a reason for its decision, though a spokesperson for the company told Travel Agent, "It comes down to economics. American wants to have all their fares available, but it has to be balanced economically. It just was no longer feasible to distribute those tickets through Expedia and we believe we still have a good relationship with the company." He added that the carrier currently has no plans to de-list from other online travel agencies.
