ARC June Report: Taxes Up Transactions Down

The Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC) reported $7.1 billion in sales for June 2008, a 2.1 percent increase over June 2007. Year-to-date, total sales hit $44.8 billion, a 4.5 percent increase over the first six months of 2007.

Both domestic U.S. and international transactions declined 6.9 percent and 4.5 percent respectively for June. For the six months of 2008, domestic transactions declined 5.6 percent while international transactions increased slightly to 0.8 percent. Total transactions year-to-date declined 3.9 percent and 6.2 percent for June 2008 compared to June 2007.

For June 2008, both credit card and cash transactions declined 5.9 percent and 2.9 percent respectively. Total taxes and fees increased 14.8 percent for the month and 10.8 percent over the same period of 2007, totaling $5.8 billion year to date.

Domestic fares declined 0.5 percent and international fares increased 0.5 percent. Retail locations reporting totaled 18,018 as well as 1,250 STP locations. Average daily sales for June totaled $12,421.
