ARC Reports Drop in Air Sales and Transactions

The Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC) reported a 15.3 percent decline in transactions, primarily air sales, for August 2008. This includes a 15.9 percent drop in domestic transactions and a 13.3 percent decline in international transactions. Total sales also declined 5.9 percent to $6.1 billion for the month. Total taxes and fees, however, increased 5.1 percent. ARC said 17,965 retail locations reported as well as 1,239 satellite ticket (STP) locations. Average daily sales were reported at $10,412. Year-to-date, total sales were $57.8 billion, a 3.2 percent increase. ARC did not comment on the significance of the data.
