Clear Lanes Shuts Down Its Speedy Aiport Security Service

June 23, 2009 By: Megan Stride Travel Agent

Impatient travelers will no longer be able to pay to dash through long security lines at U.S. airports.

At 11 p.m. PST last night, Verified Identity Pass shut down Clear, its speedy screening service which helped paying members through the security process at about 20 airports. Clear's website says that the shutdown is a result of the parent company's inability to reach a negotiation agreement with its senior creditor and that Clear is doing its best to secure and delete the personal information of its members.

Unfortunately for Clear's customers, each of whom shelled out $199 annually for membership, the site says refunds aren't possible because of the company's "financial condition."
