Continental Debuts New York-Turks and Caicos Islands Service

The Turks & Caicos National MuseumContinental Airlines has launched nonstop service between New York's Newark International Airport and Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands. Initially, service will operate four times a week before it becomes daily starting March 6, 2011.

Running Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday to begin with, Flight CO 610 will depart Newark at 9:35 a.m. to arrive on the Caribbean island at 1:10 p.m. following the three-and-a-half-hour flight. Returning, Flight 609 will leave Providenciales at 2:05 p.m. to arrive in Newark at 5:45 p.m. All flights will operate aboard a Boeing 737-800 with room for 160 passengers, including 16 in first class and 144 in economy.

Other Caribbean destinations the airline serves include Aruba, Punta Cana and Nassau. Distinguishing itself among the country's 40 islands and cays, Providenciales (commonly known as Provo) features the 12-mile, white-sand Grace Bay Beach alongside golf, a marine park, the world's first conch farm and the convenience of English as the official language and the U.S. dollar as the country's currency.
