Flight reductions by Delta Air Lines at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) over the past few years have had a strong negative impact on the region, a local newspaper, The Enquirer, reports.
In an analysis by the newspaper, it's estimated that the region has lost $1 billion in annual economic benefit as well as about 33,000 jobs.
The Enquirer calculated the figures by comparing a new CVG economic impact study by the University of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky University with a similar study produced in 2005. That was before Delta began a string of flight cutbacks.
According to the newspaper, the new economic impact study reveals CVG is directly or indirectly responsible for 22,724 jobs; the airport also has $3.6 billion annual economic impact based on jobs, airport operations, visitor spending and tax revenues.
A similar study eight years ago by the University of Cincinnati calculated that the airport was responsible for nearly 56,000 jobs and $4.5 billion in regional economic impact.
