You probably have heard the news about American Airlines, whose parent company filed for bankruptcy protection last week. Despite this gloomy forecast, the L.A. Times is reporting that the airline will acquire 10 new Boeing 777-300ER planes in the next two years, which will include lie-flat seats in first and business class sections. The planes will also feature 'mood lighting' and a walk-up bar.
"American ordered the narrow-body planes in July to replace the airline's MD-80s, most of which had been built from 1979-1999," the article reports. "The new planes are expected to be up to 35 percent more fuel efficient than the MD-80s."
The older, gas-guzzling planes, according to the pilots' union, were one of the reasons for the airline's tumultuous financial situation.
