Soon all U.S.-bound flights flown by Etihad Airways will be given the benefit of preclearance at Abu Dhabi airport.

Beginning January 15, preclearance will open with flight EY103 to New York’s JFK airport and Flight EY183 to San Francisco. Then flights to Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Los Angeles and Washington D.C. will get preclearance.

Preclearance gives passengers the opportunity to avoid long custom lines upon arrival. Instead, all U.S. customs, immigration and security checks are performed in Abu Dhabi before passengers board flights bound for the U.S. Also, baggage screenings in Abu Dhabi meet the U.S. TSA security standards, so baggage can be checked all the way to the final destination.

“Since its opening in January last year, the U.S. preclearance has been extremely popular with air travelers, particularly those from the Indian subcontinent and Middle East region. More than 325,000 people have passed through the facility, arriving in the United States as domestic passengers,” said Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways’ chief commercial officer.
