Jetstar Slates International Route Expansion

April 14, 2006 By: Camie Foster Travel Agent

Qantas is proceeding with its two-brand strategy, with the latest step being an announcement of Jetstar's international route network that will launch in November. "We are creating two distinct and viable flying businesses in what remains a very difficult operating environment of continuing record high fuel prices," says Geoff Dixon, Qantas CEO. "Jetstar will be grown aggressively over the next three years while we continue to expand Qantas' international operations." In line with this strategy, the Australian Airlines brand will cease in July and its flights and staff will continue to operate from the Cairns base under the Qantas brand in a wet-lease operation. The carrier will debut Jetstar service to Osaka, Ho Chi Minh City and Phuket. It also will provide three roundtrip flights a week from Sydney to Honolulu and two roundtrips a week between Melbourne and Honolulu; these flights are in addition to Qantas' current three roundtrips a week between Sydney and Honolulu.
