Moscow-bound Plane Diverted to Iceland After Bomb Threat; No Injuries ReportedAugust 16, 2012 By: Jena Tesse Fox
NBC is reporting that an Aeroflot passenger jet carrying 256 people from New York to Moscow was diverted to Iceland after an anonymous caller told authorities at John F. Kennedy International Airport that a bomb was on board. The plane landed safely at Iceland's Keflavik international airport with no injuries.
Reykjavik police told NBC News that the plane was evacuated upon landing in Iceland and all passengers and baggage were being inspected, which is procedure in such cases. The passengers were then bused to a nearby hotel while authorities searched the plane.
It is not clear who placed the call, or what the precise nature of the threat was. The investigation is ongoing, and as of press time, the passengers were still in Iceland and waiting to board another plane to Moscow.
