Northwest Airlines filed documents with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York to refinance $1.1 billion in bank debt at more favorable terms. The goal is to provide $250 million in additional liquidity, and the new financing would be convertible to exit financing when it's time for the airline to leave Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection behind.
