Chicago's O'Hare International Airport took
over the "nation's busiest airport" title from Hartsfield-JacksonAtlantaInternationalAirport,
according to flight statistics released Monday by the Federal Aviation
Administration for the period January 1 to June 30 of this year. Dallas/Fort
Worth International Airport took the third spot. The flight statistics include
both take-offs and landings. Atlanta
and O'Hare have battled back and forth to claim the top spot in recent years.
The latest report showed O'Hare with 477,001 flights, versus Atlanta's 472,431. Interestingly, both
airports showed a drop in flight totals—O'Hare due to an FAA-limit on the
number of flights there to help relieve congestion, and Atlanta mostly due to Delta Air Lines' woes.
The latter has cut many domestic flights in its effort to reorganize under
bankruptcy court protection.
