Report: Lufthansa Strike Cancels 900 Flights in Germany

lufthansaLufthansa has announced that it is cancelling nearly 900 flights due to a strike by airport workers in Frankfurt and Munich, Reuters reports. The cancellations represent about 60 percent of Lufthansa's usual daily traffic.

The strike by ground services, security, fire fighting and check-in staff represented by Union Verdi is set to last all day in Munich and end at 1:00 p.m. GMT in Frankfurt.

Verdi head Frank Bsirske said the strike was a warning to speed up wage negotiations, which are set to resume Thursday.
