SAS and United Express Planes Touch on Taxiway at Newark Liberty International

new yorkA Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) plane's left wing clipped the tail of a United Express plane on a taxiway Wednesday night at Newark Liberty International Airport.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident, acccording to the Federal Aviation Administration. On Thursday, the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board said it's investigating the accident.

The United Express plane, operated by ExpressJet, was Flight 4226 bound for Nashville, TNThe SAS plane, Flight 908 headed for Oslo, Norway was directly behind the ExpressJet aircraft and then turned right to another taxiway and clipped the ExpressJet plane.

The accident damaged the SAS plane's left winglet, which is designed to minimize drag in flight and conserve fuel. The United Express flight was towed back to the gate and the SAS plane taxied back to the gate under its own power.

Both flights were cancelled, pending an investigation. Passengers on the two planes were rebooked on other flights.
