Singapore Airlines Successfully Completes Green Flight

Singapore Airlines has just completed the first multi-sector demonstration green flight, saving more than 10 tons of fuel and reducing carbon emissions by more than 33 tons. This the first green flight operated by the Asia and Pacific Initiative to Reduce Emissions (ASPIRE) program.

Flight SQ11 left Los Angeles on January 31 and arrived in Singapore early today, February 2, via Tokyo.

Each stage of the journey had a green touch. Before the flight the aircraft underwent an engine wash, using recycled water, to optimize efficiency. A ground electrical supply was used to power the craft while it was on the ground. After takeoff the plane was given an "unrestricted climb," so that it could reach its peak altitude as fast as possible.
