Snakes Escape Plane In Australia

April 16, 2009 By: Travel Agent Central Contributor

Samuel L. Jackson was nowhere to be seen, but fortunately his heroics were not needed to keep passengers safe Tuesday as four baby pythons got loose on a plane that in Australia. No passengers were harmed, though two flights were canceled, and the escaped snakes were never found.

The four slithering escapees somehow got out of a container in the cargo area of a Qantas passenger plane. There were 12 pythons in total in the bag inside a plastic foam box with air holes, which was being transported from Alice Springs to Melbourne. Their absence went unnoticed until landing and it was not known if the snakes were still on the plane or if they had escaped outside after the plane landed. When the snakes were not found, the airplane was fumigated and it returned to service on Wednesday.

The pythons were not poisonous.
