South African Will Offer Daily IAD FlightMay 10, 2006 By: Susan Young Travel Agent
South African Airways said that starting July 1, it would introduce daily service on its route between Washington Dulles International Airport and Johannesburg International Airport in South Africa. That route was first launched in July 2005 with four flights a week including an operational fuel stop in Accra, Ghana. South African Airways' new daily service from Washington Dulles will stop in Dakar, Senegal, offering passengers the opportunity to connect to points throughout West Africa. South African Airways will also introduce its flagship Airbus 340-600 aircraft on the route, replacing the Boeing 747-400. The new daily Washington Dulles service will allow South African Airways, recently inducted into the global Star Alliance, to more closely align itself with Star Alliance carrier United Airlines; in that regard, the departure time for the Dulles to Johannesburg flight will be shifted from 9:30 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. In addition, South African Airways will discontinue its daily service to South Africa from Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport effective July 1. The airline will continue to feature daily service from New York's JFK International Airport to Johannesburg combined with the Washington Dulles service for a total of 14 flights a week from the United States to South Africa. South African Airways passengers currently holding tickets departing Atlanta after June 30 will be re-accommodated on the airline's Washington Dulles or JFK service.
