Southwest Alters Schedules to Accommodate Demand

January 10, 2008 By: Travel Agent Central Contributor Travel Agent

Southwest Airlines is eliminating 40 flights from its May schedule to add 49 flights in "key growth markets," including seasonal routes to accommodate peak summer demand. "Southwest Airlines is concerned about slowing economic growth and we want our flight schedule to be built around flights that are in high demand," said Gary Kelly, CEO of Southwest.

Flights have been increased on such routes as Denver-Los Angeles and Seattle-Chicago Midway. Decreased routes include Austin-Nashville and Fort Lauderdale-Baltimore. For a complete list of changes, visit

For its new services, Southwest is offering special fares as low as $79 one-way with a 14-day advanced purchase. For sale prices, visit (JM)
