Speaking Out Against Airline 'Fat Taxes'March 2, 2010 By: Meagan Drillinger
In response to the recent poll on Skyscanner, where 76 percent of people voted in favor of a 'Fat Tax' (a charge for passengers who cannot fit into a single seat), the United Kingdom's tall population is speaking out in solidarity.
"Everyone's talking about 'fat tax' but 'tall tax' has been around for years. i always request an exit row seat, but there's no guarantee you'll get one," says Simon James, a six-foot-five-inch man from Edinburgh. "I have sympathy for overweight people, but at least the vast majority of them can lose weight if they choose. Tall people can't get any shorter. People come in all shapes and sizes, and airlines should accommodate us all."
Most airlines charge an exorbitant amount for seats with extra leg room. Qantas charges $160 on some flights for an exit seat.
