Unite Calls off BAA Strike

August 17, 2010 By: Jena Tesse Fox

Some more happy news from the UK's airline industry: Unite, the union behind this year's strikes at British Airways and the threatened strikes at BAA airports, has called off the latter round of strikes.

Unite's national officers, Brian Boyd and Brendan Gold, said: "Unite came to these negotiations with a strong mandate for industrial action...Unite's negotiating committee will recommend a much improved offer from BAA."

In a statement, BAA said that "trade unions have agreed to recommend to members BAA's revised offer of an unconditional 2 percent on pay and allowances and a guaranteed airport profit bonus for 2010 of a minimum of [$781]."
The union will now ballot its members on the details of the offer.
