United Airlines CEO Oscar Munoz Gets Heart Transplant

oscar munozUnited Airlines has announced that Oscar Munoz, the company's president and CEO, underwent a heart transplant operation early January 6 and is in recovery. A transplant was considered the preferred treatment and was not the result of a setback in his recovery, the airline said in a statement. The company expects Munoz to return at the end of the first quarter or the beginning of the second quarter.

Munoz was placed on medical leave following a heart attack he suffered October 15. Shortly thereafter, United Airlines named Brett J. Hart, then the airline's executive vice president and general counsel, as acting CEO.
