United Airlines Moves All Flights From JFK to NewarkJune 17, 2015 By: Newswire
United Airlines has announced plans to move the last of its flights out of New York's JFK airport, the airline's "p.s." Premium Service, to the airline's hub at Newark Liberty International Airport this October.
Beginning October 25, the "p.s." Newark-Los Angeles and Newark-San Francisco flights will offer BusinessFirst cabin customers flat-bed seats for the first time, as well as connections with United's transatlantic and transpacific networks.
According to an AP analysis of the move, United had been lagging competitors Delta, JetBlue and American in passengers at JFK, while enjoying a dominant position at Newark. United Continental Holdings Inc. executives told the AP that the JFK flights had lost money for the past seven years, though they did not say how much. The move also allows United to offer connecting flights for passengers arriving from Los Angeles and San Francisco, which was not possible at JFK. United will trade slots at JFK with Delta in exchange for Delta slots at Newark, an arrangement subject to regulatory approval.
The new Newark-Los Angeles and Newark-San Francisco flights will also offer extra-legroom Economy Plus seats, in-flight Wi-Fi and personal on-demand entertainment.
United will fly up to 17 daily roundtrips Newark-San Francisco and up to 15 daily roundtrips Newark-Los Angeles.
United has also announced the airline will invest in a multimillion dollar renovation of its Terminal C lobby at Newark, and that it will bring its new airport lounge design concept to all United Club locations at Newark Liberty.
