United Plans Increased Hawaii Service

United Airlines will start increased service between Hawaii and the continental U.S. on June 8, offering two new weekend and three additional daily flights for a total of 227 weekly summer flights. This represents an additional 21 weekly flights to Hawaii over what the airline offered last summer. As part of this increase, United will launch new weekend service between San Diego and Honolulu and between Seattle and Honolulu. Customers already have the option to fly to Hawaii from San Francisco, Los Angeles, Denver and Chicago. As part of the summer enhancements, United will also add three daily flights departing from Los Angeles with service to Lihue, Kona and Maui to complement its five times daily service from Los Angeles and San Francisco to Honolulu, and its four times daily service from Los Angeles and San Francisco to Maui. The airline is also adding 100 employees in Hawaii. It will begin recruiting on May 15 for customer service, ramp service and reservations sales and service employees. In 2005, United flew 1.9 million passengers to Hawaii from throughout the world.
