Volaris, the low-cost airline based in Mexico, started flying the only non-stop flight from New York City to Guadalajara, Jalisco this week.

The airline began operations in 2006 and, to date, has served about 50 million passengers, says Jose Luis Suarez, customer service and sales director for Volaris.

The new flights will depart from New York's John F. Kennedy Airport at 2:30 a.m. in order to get business travelers into Guadalajara by 6:39 a.m. The flight will depart Guadalajara at 6:36 p.m. and will get into New York at 12:45 a.m.

"Volaris' new route will undoubtedly allow for more connectivity options between the northeastern US and the Western-Pacific area of Mexico and will take advantage of Guadalajara’s road infrastructure and its many domestic flights,” said Sandra Fuentes-Berain, Consul General of Mexico in New York.

Volaris flies to 38 domestic destinations in Mexico.

According to NYC & Company, New York City welcomed 408,000 Mexican visitors last year and that number is expected to grow to 411,000 this year.
