American Airlines Revises Baggage Policy

American Airlines has announced changes to their checked bag policy for travel to, from or through the United States, Europe and India.

The changes apply to tickets purchased on or after September 14 on any flight operated by American Airlines for travel to, from or through India, as well as the following European countries - Belgium, England, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain and Switzerland. U.S territories such as Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands are also affected.

Customers who purchase certain economy class tickets will be able to check one bag for free and will have to pay $50 for a second checked bag.

Various exceptions for travelers apply, such as American AAdvantage program members who have achieved AAdvantage Gold, AAdvantage Platinum and AAdvantage Executive Platinum levels. Passengers booked in First and Business Class cabins, as well as those who purchase full-fare tickets in Economy Class, are also exempt.
