ARC Reports Air Sales Decline

The Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC) reported total sales for February 2009 of $5.3 billion, a 26.07 percent decline from the same period last year. Year-to-date sales were $10.6 billion, a 25.3 percent drop from 2008. Credit and cash sales were down, as were transactions. In all twelve key categories tracked by ARC, the February report showed double digit declines. This includes total taxes and fees that dropped to $810 million, a 14.4. percent decrease from last year.

According to the report (based on 174 carriers), February domestic fares came in at $2.3 billion, a 26.4 percent decline, while domestic transactions fell to 8 million, a 20.04 percent drop. International fares were $2 billion, a 29.9 percent drop. International transactions were down 12.3 percent at 3.2 million.

Retail locations reporting totaled 17,572 plus 1,152 satellite STP locations. Average daily sales were $10,152.
