Lufthansa Expands Social Networking

May 18, 2010 By: George Dooley

Lufthansa has introduced an upgraded version of its free social networking tool, MySkyStatus, that offers travelers more functionality and practicality.

New features include the ability to link users’ automatic status updates with their e-mail and social network accounts, including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. It also allows fans to identify where other MySkyStatus users are traveling to, and provides improved customization to help tell each individual’s travel story. Personalized profiles keep track of users’ flight history and allow future flights to be added quickly, as individuals can tag their status updates with additional travel details.

Since its launch, MySkyStatus has had 300,000 visitors, sent more than 150,000 status updates, engaged travelers from 191 countries and generated more than 81,000 Google search results, Lufthansa says. A mobile-friendly version is also available, enabling MySkyStatus users to post regular updates about their travel plans from the road. Later this year, Lufthansa will re-launch FlyNet, its broadband wireless Internet on board service.
