Onboard Bag Restrictions Lifted in U.K.

January 7, 2008 By: Travel Agent Central Contributor Travel Agent

Beginning Monday, various British airports will increase the number of carry-ons that passengers are allowed. Customers of such airlines as British Airways and Continental Airlines will be allowed to take two pieces of hand baggage on flights at 22 U.K. airports, including Heathrow, London City, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester and Stansted. The one-bag limit is still in place at Gatwick.

Robert Boyle, British Airways' commercial director, called the restriction "a serious inconvenience" that "didn't make sense," since the U.K. was the only country to impose the rule. "Now we want to see the restrictions lifted at Gatwick in line with other major U.K. airports as quickly as possible," he said. "We are working closely with the BAA and DfT [Department for Transport] towards lifting the one-bag restriction as soon as possible." Visit Visit (JM)
