SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities say about 7,800 people in Utah have applied for a program to move through airport security lines more quickly.

The Transportation Security Administration's Pre-Check program allows low-risk travelers to wear their shoes, light outwear and belts through security. They can also keep laptops in their cases and approved liquids and gels in bags.

Authorities say now is a good time for people to apply, before the holiday travel season. Nationally, nearly 700,000 people have enrolled in Pre-Check since it started last December.

U.S. citizens or permanent residents can apply at enrollment centers in person to verify their identity and provide fingerprints. There are two enrollment centers in Salt Lake City and one in St. George.

A five-year registration costs $85.
