United Airlines Increases Fee for Second Checked Bag

United Airlines is doubling its fee for a second checked bag from $25 to $50. Fuel prices are, once again, the culprit in another decision to charge customers through a baggage policy. The charge goes into effect Tuesday, for travel beginning November 10, and applies to tickets for flights within the U.S. or to or from Canada, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

First- and business-class class travelers, along with "Premier" frequent fliers and active-duty military personnel traveling on orders will remain exempt from paying the fee.
