United to Remove Free Meals From Coach Class on International Flights

Eat heartily before flying if you're going to sit in coach on an international flight courtesy of United Airlines. After taking economic measures such as baggage fees and capacity cutbacks, the airline will stop serving free meals in the coach cabin for some overseas flights beginning October 1, Bloomberg News reports. It will be the first U.S. carrier to do so. Meals in first-class cabins will still be free.

The airline will still offer meals, but they will have to be be purchased when flying to Europe from Washington's Dulles International Airport. Flights from Dulles to Kuwait will continue to receive free meals, however, due to the 12 hours of flying time as opposed to the eight or nine hours for other flights. United will also eliminate free snacks in coach on any North American flights of 760 miles to 1,149 miles, or two to three hours.

Just another airline on my "Not to fly on" list. We the consumers made them, we will break them of this madness.

It will be intereseting to see if this results in a downward trend in coach class tickets.
I for one would choose to avoid flying United whenever possible as a result of this - unless they reduce ticket prices to compensate ....

Unlike on domestic routes, they are competing with foreign carriers, who will not take same steps. They'll wind up losing business. In a month or so they'll be having a giveaway sale to try to fill seats.

Just another disgusting display of inept management.
