US Airways Reports Second Quarter Profit

US Airways Group reported its second quarter financial results including a net profit for the second quarter 2010 of $279 million. This is the second highest quarterly profit since the merger of US Airways and America West in 2005, the airline said. This compares to a net profit of $58 million for the same period in 2009.

Total revenues in the second quarter were up 19.3 percent versus the second quarter 2009. This improvement was driven by higher passenger yields due to an improving economy resulting in greater demand for business travel. Total revenue per available seat mile was 14.37 cents, up 18.9 percent versus the same period last year.
