Travel Alberta and WestJet recently hosted a Winter Experiences fam trip for travel agents from Southern California.
The fam began in the capital city of Edmonton with a two-night stay at the landmark Chateau Lacombe Hotel. In Edmonton the agents were treated to a guided tour of Elk Island National Park to view free roaming bison, before a cross country ski lesson at Strathcona Wilderness Centre and guided Segway and snowshoe tours in the River Valley. They finished their evening shopping and dining at the West Edmonton Mall.
From Edmonton the agents journeyed on the VIA Rail Canada train to Jasper National Park. While in Jasper, the agents stayed at an eight-bedroom cabin at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge. Jasper National Park, which is the world’s second largest Dark Skies Preserve, offered agents the opportunity for stargazing before they headed indoors for an interactive astronomy presentation in a blow-up dome. A visit to Marmot Basin, an ice walk along the frozen canyon floor at Maligne Canyon, snowshoeing at Pyramid Lake and a horse-drawn sleigh ride with Jasper Riding Stables wrapped up their time in Jasper.
The fam ended in Banff National Park with stays at the mountain Deer Lodge in Lake Louise and the RimRock Resort Hotel in Banff. The Lake Louise Gondola provided views of the snow covered mountains at the Lake Louise Ski Resort before the agents enjoyed a ride on snow tubes. In Banff a ride on the Banff Gondola up Sulphur Mountain provided the agents a birds-eye view of the town of Banff and their location for lunch, The Fairmont Banff Springs. That afternoon provided the option for ski lessons and tubing at Mt. Norquay, with most agents participating in several runs down the tube slopes riding solo, in pairs and then with five tubes together.
