Representatives of Club Med recently announced the relaunch of its Rio das Pedras resort in Brazil after extensive renovations to room accommodations, the main restaurant, convention center and the addition of a new adults-only quiet pool. Located in southern Rio de Janeiro, this exclusive eco-resort reopens just before a mad tourist rush to Brazil is expected for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and again in 2016 for the Olympics.

The resort is situated between the Mata Atlantica, one of the world’s most ecologically diverse rainforests, and nearly 2,000 feet of private beach. Club Med presents clients with plenty of opportunities to relax and explore the carefully preserved and developed rainforest.

Club Med Rio das Pedras’ relaunch introduces new and upgraded rooms to the property’s 346 total colonial-style bungalows. With the help of French architect Marc Hertrich, 120 Deluxe Rooms were redesigned with decor that blends the traditional influences of Brazil, India and Portugal while using natural, local materials.

From nightstands evoking the elongated drums typical of Brazilian music and delicate chandeliers honoring the indigenous atmosphere, to room colors representing Brazil’s flag, each aspect of the design showcases authentic Brazilian culture to enhance the guests’ comfort and experience. Incorporating a Club Med signature concept, Rio das Pedras now offers a quiet pool exclusively for adults desiring absolute serenity.

The transformation of Rio das Pedras also includes a $4 million investment to completely renovate the convention center and main restaurant. With a capacity of 790 seats, the main restaurant is strategically located above the reception area welcoming guests upon their arrival to the resort, and is divided into five thematic seating areas.

The 1,000-seat convention center is now even better equipped to accommodate corporate groups and business travel, which represents 55 percent of Club Med Rio das Pedras’ operations. This is representative of the Club Med portfolio at large, as every destination now offers groups and incentives offerings, and most also include professional meeting spaces.
