We haven’t yet seen every Sandals property in the portfolio, but we may have just experienced the best. Travel Agent recently returned from a press trip to the new Sandals LaSource Grenada Resort & Spa, which had a soft opening on December 21, and can say that this may be the most luxurious resort Sandals Resorts International has ever rolled out.

Occupying 17 acres of stunning land along the pristine Pink Gin Beach, Sandals LaSource Grenada offers clients a high level of luxury with an unprecedented look and feel for the all-inclusive resort company’s brand.

Sandals LaSource Grenada comprises 231 rooms and suites housed within three distinct villages: Pink Gin, Italian and South Seas. The best rooms at the resort are the Skypool, Millionaire and Rondoval Suites. For the best views, however, clients should look no further than the oceanview Skypool Suites, which give outstanding views of the Caribbean Sea and come with large balconies, lounge chairs, dining tables, soaking tubs and a plunge pool.

Of Suites and Butler Service

We stayed in one of the Skypool Suites, room #3504. In addition to the views from the bedroom, what impressed us about this room were the marble sinks in the bathroom; the flat-screens TVs (about 60 inches), one each in the bedroom and living room; and the abundant amount of snacks, soft drinks, premium liquor and beer, including the highly regarded Caribbean brew, Stag Lager.

There are 69 Butler suites and they include more than just the Millionaire, Rondoval and Skypool units. There is also Butler service in the following suites: Italian Swim up Bi-level One Bedroom Butler Suite with Veranda Tranquility Soaking Tub, Italian Oceanview Bi-level One Bedroom Butler Suite with Veranda Tranquility Soaking Tub, and South Seas Honeymoon One Bedroom Butler Suite with Private Pool Sanctuary. (Of special note for your romance clients: All rooms and suites in The South Seas and Italian villages have a soaking tub.)

During our stay, our butlers were Shirley Ann and Leanna, and we highly recommend requesting either of them for your clients. Both butlers did everything from bringing us a cooler full of beer and water to the swimming pools to shining our shoes in time for a big dinner with Gordon “Butch” Stewart, chairman and founder of Sandals Resorts International. We were told between $10-$20 a day is an acceptable tip for your butlers.

Dining and Wellness

There are nine global gourmet dining options at Sandals LaSource, including the brand’s very first steakhouse, Butch’s Chophouse, named after Mr. Stewart. The portions are great and the quality of food is really good. We highly recommend the rib eye here. Also, be sure to check out Soy, the Japanese restaurant that serves some of the best sushi we’ve ever tried in the Caribbean.

The resort’s Red Lane Spa has seven treatment rooms and two couples’ sanctuaries. Clients can use the spa facilities free of charge. Treatments, however, are not free.

Sandals LaSource Grenada Resort & Spa is only minutes from Maurice Bishop International Airport. Clients can receive private vehicle transfers to and from the airport upon request.

Ramping Up the Romance

Sandals Resorts and Beaches Resorts recently announced updates for clients looking to wed. Brides and grooms now have the option to choose from 14 fabric options in 2014 with the debut of four elegant linen colors. Shades of gold shimmer, silver shimmer, chocolate brown and red are new additions to the WeddingMoons color palette, offering couples the chance to add some sparkle and color to their big celebration.

WeddingMoons are also getting a little sweeter with the addition of a fourth wedding cake flavor, red velvet. Couples can also choose this or one of the original flavors—tropical Caribbean fruit cake, classic vanilla or chocolate—during their exclusive cake tasting upon arrival at their resort of choice.

In addition, the Red Lane Spa is launching a renewed “Scents of Love” couples massage (60 minutes, $250 per couple, or 90 minutes, $360 per couple). Couples can rekindle the flame of love, as Red Lane Spa takes them on an aromatic journey to romance and deep connection.

To begin, the spa relaxation specialist will guide couples in selecting a soy candle aroma that appeals to their senses, ranging from lemongrass and guava to the subtle essences of an ocean breeze. Once in the privacy of the treatment room, couples will be guided through a romantic candle lighting ritual. As the couple lights each other’s candle from a burning Unity Taper, they will have a moment to offer their special someone a wish, a thought or a blessing.

As the flames warm the wax of the candle, this melted wax turns into an aromatic massage oil that their relaxation specialist will use throughout the service.

This warmed massage oil is said to represent the warmth of the love shared between two. At the end of the journey, the couple is invited to take each of their candles home as a keepsake of their time shared together at Red Lane Spa.
